CLIMATE
The rainforest in the area of the Las Piedras river enjoys a hot, humid climate; it is hottest and wettest in the rainy season, november to march, when the majority of the annual rain falls (2000-2500mm (80-100inches) per year.) The average daily temperature is 26ºC (78ºF).
During the dry season, between the months of May and August, the phenomenon of the “Friaje” may cause unusually low temperatures. Friajes are cold fronts that come up from the south, bringing cool temperatures, strong winds and rain. These cold fronts typically occur 6-10 times a year and last 2-4 days. Temperatures can dip below 10º C although 15º C is more likely.
Advice for visitors to the eco-lodges on the Las Piedras river:
- Dry Season – Expect sunny weather, but come prepared for possible rain or cold.
- Wet Season – Expect rain, heat and humidity and some sun!
